Arsene
Wenger base on his believe that Arsenal can ‘achieve the impossible’ task of
beating Bayern Munchen in their UEFA Champions League in the last 16 second leg on Wednesday, has not
totally lost faith on his side, and believes that Arsenal can overturn the
deficit despite the Bavarians having one of the most formidable home records in
European football, and their loss to the Bayerns at the Emirates a forthnight,
and also face the uphill battle of having to score three times at the Allianz Arena
to have any chance of making the competition’s quarter-finals.
The 63 year
old said, “Our mentality is to go there, not resigned, but ambitious and
provoke things, not to go there and think ‘we will not qualify anyway’. No, not
at all,
“We have to
go there and give ourselves a chance to qualify with everybody believing we can
do it. We have to behave on the football pitch like a team who wants to do it. That
will be the task in the preparation.
“How will
we go into the game tactically? I haven’t decided yet. It will be with an
ambitious plan, that is for sure.”
Wenger also
believes Bayern may become complacent, due to their previous victory, and hopes
that will give his side a step ahead,
“We have to
try to put Bayern on the back foot, subconsciously anyway, they think they are
through and we have to subconsciously think we can do it,” he said.
“The only
way to do it is to have a very positive attitude from the start”
